Leesburg, VA (February 15, 2024) – The Leesburg Commission on Public Art (COPA) is pleased to announce a special art exhibit on display in the main lobby of Leesburg Town Hall (25 West Market Street).
A self-taught artist, Leesburg resident Gary Murray creates native-Loudoun vistas, portraits, and African American themes using a variety of recycled items.
His paintings are comprised of three-dimensional objects, such as frayed rope, old watches, nets, and gloves, which are then transformed to become a person’s shoulders, hands, hair, or other features in his paintings. Six of his pieces will be on display through Thursday, February 29.
Murray’s artwork has been featured in exhibitions throughout the country including the Milton Art Museum, Boston Symphony, George Washington University, and in numerous public buildings and restaurants in Baltimore, Maryland, Washington D.C., and Roanoke, Virginia. His exhibits have also appeared in a number of publications including Manhattan Arts International and The Washington Post.
The exhibit will be available for viewing at Leesburg Town Hall during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, contact COPA’s Staff Liaison Leah Kosin at lkosin@leesburgva.gov.
