Leesburg, VA – Authorities in Leesburg are currently investigating a robbery that took place on Friday afternoon, involving suspects impersonating police officers. The incident occurred in the 800 block of Edwards Ferry Road NE, raising concerns about the misuse of emergency signals to commit crimes.
According to the Leesburg Police Department, the victim was cycling westbound on the sidewalk around 4:30 p.m. when a newer model grey Toyota Corolla with tinted windows and flashing red and blue dashboard lights approached him. Believing it to be a police vehicle, the victim stopped. Two men then exited the vehicle, both displaying silver badges and dressed in a manner consistent with law enforcement officers — grey shirts, blue jeans, and black vests.
During the encounter, one of the suspects forcibly took money from the victim’s wallet. The suspects then re-entered their vehicle and were last seen driving away, turning right onto Plaza Street NE. The first suspect is described as a Black male, around 6’02” tall, with a beard and muscular build. The second suspect is a White male, approximately 5’09” tall, clean-shaven, and of a slim build.
The Leesburg Police Department urges anyone who might have witnessed the incident or has any information to contact Detective C. Hill at 703-771-4500. This incident highlights the need for vigilance and caution when approached by seemingly official vehicles.
