A local teenager has been charged with making threats via electronic communication after sending alarming text messages to a crisis line that included threats of harm to students. The incident, which unfolded on September 11, 2024, triggered a swift response from the Leesburg Police Department. By 12:18 a.m., police were notified, and within 40 minutes, they had tracked down and identified the juvenile responsible.
Following an investigation and discussions with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, authorities formally charged the teenager. Given the individual’s age, no personal details are being released.
Leesburg Police Chief Thea Pirnat made it clear that such threats, whether real or made in jest, are taken very seriously. “False threats, whether intended as a joke or not, have real-world consequences. These types of incidents divert critical resources, cause unnecessary fear, and disrupt the safety and well-being of our community,” Pirnat said, emphasizing that offenders will be held accountable.
