The Leesburg Police Department is actively investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that took place on October 23, 2024. The incident, which occurred at around 1:45 p.m. at the Leesburg Bypass and Fort Evans Road NE, involved a tractor-trailer that struck a Chrysler 300 before fleeing the scene.
Officers later found the abandoned tractor-trailer nearby on Edwards Ferry Road NE and are currently pursuing leads with the help of persons of interest tied to the truck. However, the individual responsible has not yet been identified.
The three people inside the Chrysler 300 were taken to a hospital for treatment. Sadly, on October 26, Monica Lee, 93, of Lovettsville, VA, succumbed to her injuries. The other two occupants, including the driver, have been released.
