Pennsylvania Man Arrested for November Burglary at Leesburg Aeropostale

Timothy E  RootLeesburg, VA — A Pennsylvania man has been arrested in connection with the November 2024 burglary of the Aeropostale store at Leesburg’s Fort Evans Plaza. Police report that $6,500 worth of merchandise was stolen, along with damage to a mall bench valued at $2,276.

The incident occurred early in the morning on November 23, when officers arrived at the store to find signs of forced entry. Following an investigation, Leesburg detectives identified 58-year-old Timothy E. Root of Philadelphia as the suspect.

Charges against Root include burglary, grand larceny, possession of burglar tools, and property destruction. Leesburg Police obtained a warrant for his arrest, and on January 25, 2025, Root was taken into custody by police in Lebanon, PA. He is currently being held at the Lebanon County Correctional Facility while awaiting extradition to Virginia.

Leesburg Police Chief Gregory Brown credited the work of his detectives and the collaboration with Pennsylvania authorities in making the arrest.
