After a year of quieter skies, one of Loudoun’s favorite traditions is back. The Leesburg Airshow is set to return to Leesburg Executive Airport on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. — and it’s completely free to attend.
You’ll see everything from classic WWII aircraft to modern stunt planes, and yes, the wing walkers are back too.
The airshow, which draws thousands each year, includes a static display of historic and modern planes—among them, the sleek L-39 jet trainer, the rugged TBM Avenger, and the nostalgic PT-17 Stearman. That’s the kind of hardware that once trained generations of American pilots.
And for those into small but mighty tech, the Northern Virginia Radio Control Club will show off a fleet of high-powered, remote-controlled planes and jets.
Flight Action at 1 PM
The main event kicks off at 1 p.m., when the skies over Sycolin Road turn into a stage. Performers include:
-
The Flying Circus
-
Scott Francis Airshows
-
RJ Gritter
-
Warbird Thunder Airshows
-
Jersey Jerks
-
David Windmiller
-
And Lt. Gen. Bob “Rooster” Schmidle, a retired Marine Corps aviator
All aerial performances depend on the weather, and organizers caution that schedules and performers may change. In case of unsafe flying conditions, the event may be altered or canceled.
On the Ground: Food, Activities & Education
It’s not just about airplanes. Families can enjoy educational exhibits, kids’ activities like inflatable slides, and plenty of food and drink vendors. For the adults, craft beer will be on tap.
There’s also an emphasis this year on aviation education — a great opportunity for local kids to learn more about flight, engineering, and aviation careers.
