Playground Fight Leads to Gunshot, Woman Injured on Hancock Place in Leesburg

A neighborhood playground in northeast Leesburg turned into a crime scene last night after a fight escalated and someone reportedly fired a gun.

Just before 9 p.m., Leesburg Police were called to the 100 block of Hancock Place NE after neighbors reported hearing what sounded like a gunshot. When officers arrived, they found a woman with a small injury to her ear. She was taken to the hospital and released shortly afterward. Investigators are still trying to determine if her injury was caused by a gunshot or something else during the chaos.

The trouble started at the playground tucked into the Hancock Place neighborhood—a usually quiet area not far from Ida Lee Park. Police say several people were involved in a fight when at least one shot was heard.

Leesburg Police canvassed the area, interviewed witnesses, and gathered evidence, but haven’t made any arrests yet. The department’s Criminal Investigations Division is now handling the case, and they’re asking for help from anyone who saw or heard anything.
