Suspect in Dulles Bank Robbery Shot by Deputies at Leesburg Walmart

A man suspected in an attempted bank robbery was shot by Loudoun County Sheriff’s deputies Tuesday morning outside the Walmart in Leesburg, after he allegedly got out of his car holding a gun.

The incident unfolded around 11:39 a.m. when a team of Loudoun County detectives, deputies, and FBI agents located the suspect in the parking lot. They believe he was tied to an attempted robbery at the Bank of America at Dulles Crossing the day before.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, as deputies approached the suspect’s vehicle, the man stepped out with a firearm. Deputies opened fire and then immediately began medical aid. He was taken to a local hospital. No law enforcement officers were hurt.

The Sheriff’s Office hasn’t yet released the suspect’s identity or his condition, and the investigation is still active.

Tuesday’s events briefly disrupted the busy shopping area off Edwards Ferry Road. Several shoppers posted online about seeing police flood the parking lot, some unaware what was happening until officers began taping off the scene.

For now, the Sheriff’s Office is urging the public to avoid speculation and wait for confirmed details as the investigation moves forward.
