Suspected Vehicle Found in Leesburg Hit-and-Run on Battlefield Parkway

Here in Leesburg, folks tend to look out for each other. That’s exactly what happened this week after a late-night hit-and-run left a man injured along Battlefield Parkway.

The Leesburg Police Department announced Wednesday that officers have located the vehicle believed to be involved in Sunday night’s pedestrian crash near Sycolin Road SE. The car is now being processed as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police say the break in the case came after community members stepped up — sharing tips and circulating video released earlier this week. That public response, investigators say, helped move the case forward.

The crash happened around 10:55 p.m. Sunday, February 8. According to police, the victim had pulled his own vehicle into the middle lane of Battlefield Parkway after noticing smoke coming from it. When he stepped out to check the problem, he was struck by a passing vehicle.

The driver didn’t stop. The car continued southbound on Battlefield Parkway SE.

Investigators initially believed the vehicle may have been a gray Tesla. After reviewing tips and video footage, police say they have now located the suspected car. They have not yet announced whether charges have been filed.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital, treated for his injuries, and has since been released.

For many longtime residents, Battlefield Parkway is more than just another busy road. It’s a major artery connecting neighborhoods that have grown rapidly over the past two decades. With that growth has come heavier traffic — and more risk after dark.

Police are still asking anyone with additional information to come forward. You can contact the department at 703-771-4500 or email policeinvestigations@leesburgva.gov. Anonymous tips can be submitted by calling 703-443-TIPS (8477).

More details are expected once charges are obtained.
