Leesburg, VA (May 4, 2026) — Police in Leesburg, Virginia say a wanted man is in custody after running from officers and assaulting one during an arrest attempt on Edwards Ferry Road.

According to the Leesburg Police Department, officers were called to the 800 block of Edwards Ferry Rd NE after reports of a man banging on a resident’s door.

When officers arrived, they identified the man as Ervin P. Lansdown Jr., 37, of Big Stone Gap, Virginia. Police say he was already wanted out of Pennsylvania for a probation violation.

Things escalated quickly.

As officers approached, Lansdown took off on foot. After a short chase, officers caught up with him—but police say he resisted arrest and assaulted one of the officers during the struggle.

The injured officer was taken to a nearby hospital with what were described as minor injuries and has since been released.

Lansdown was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, where he now faces the following charges:

  • Assault on law enforcement
  • Fleeing from law enforcement

He was also served with the outstanding probation violation warrant and is currently being held without bond.

What This Means Locally

Incidents like this are a reminder of how quickly routine calls can turn dangerous. Edwards Ferry Road is a busy corridor—lined with homes and traffic—and situations like this put both officers and residents at risk.

For longtime Loudoun residents, it’s another example of the pressures facing local law enforcement as the county continues to grow and calls for service increase.
