Looking for a New Best Friend? Loudoun Shelter Offers Free Pet Adoptions May 8–10

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. — Families across Loudoun County will have a chance to bring home a new pet without paying adoption fees during a special three-day event hosted by Loudoun County Animal Services.

The fee-waived adoption event runs Friday, May 8 through Sunday, May 10, 2026, at the Loudoun County Animal Shelter, located at 42225 Adoption Drive in Leesburg. Available animals include cats, kittens, dogs, puppies and small pets.

Shelter officials say the event is designed to help more animals find permanent homes while making it easier for working families to stop by and adopt.

To kick off the weekend, the shelter is extending its Friday hours. On Friday, May 8, adoptions will be available from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Standard weekend hours — 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. — will continue Saturday and Sunday.

“We often hear people say they are rushing home from work to adopt on the Friday before a big adoption event, so we are so excited to give people a chance to bring the whole family by on Friday evening and adopt a new best friend at no cost, in addition to welcoming everyone to our fee-waived, weekend event,” says Operations Manager Melissa Heard.

New adopters will also receive a starter supply bag with basic items to help pets settle into their new homes. Anyone adopting a dog or puppy during the event will receive free dog training classes through LCAS.

The shelter says most adoptions can still be completed the same day, although the standard screening process remains in place during the promotion.

All dogs, cats and rabbits adopted from the shelter are already spayed or neutered and come with a microchip registered to the adopter.
