New Boutique The Gothicary Brings Gothic Flair to Downtown Leesburg

LEESBURG, Va. — Downtown Leesburg has a new shopping destination for fans of gothic style, handcrafted goods, and one-of-a-kind gifts.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held June 27 to celebrate the opening of The Gothicary, a specialty gift boutique at 217 Loudoun Street SE. Owned by artist and maker Rachel Topper, the shop offers a carefully selected mix of gothic, alternative, and apothecary-inspired merchandise.

Visitors will find handmade candles, bath and body products, home fragrances, tarot and oracle items, journals, accessories, novelty gifts, and other unique items that reflect the store’s distinctive style.

For Topper, opening a storefront marks the realization of a long-term goal, although she said the opportunity came sooner than expected.

Since opening its doors, The Gothicary has attracted customers from across the region, with visitors returning to shop again and bringing friends from as far away as Maryland and West Virginia.

“The response has been amazing,” said Topper. “Leesburg is amazing. There are so many people to meet, so many quick jaunts for lunch and coffee, and the out-of-town visitors make it the perfect location for The Gothicary.”

Topper said some of the store’s best-selling products include specialty goddess candles, body oils, lip glosses, and what she describes as “super cheeky” stickers, magnets, and tote bags.

Alice in Wonderland-inspired merchandise has also become a customer favorite, featuring mugs, teapots, pocket watches, and copies of the classic novel.

The addition of The Gothicary adds another locally owned specialty retailer to downtown Leesburg’s growing mix of independent shops, offering residents and visitors another reason to explore the town’s historic business district.
