LEESBURG, Va. — Leesburg’s swimming season is going to the dogs — at least for one Saturday in September.
The town’s annual Dog Swim returns Saturday, Sept. 12, at the AV Symington Aquatic Center, giving local dogs a chance to get off the leash and into the water before the outdoor pool closes out its season.
This year’s event will be divided into two sessions, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Dogs will be able to swim and play off leash with other dogs inside the enclosed aquatic center. All exits will be gated, and a veterinarian will be on-site as a precaution.
There are a few rules owners need to know before heading to the pool. Dogs must be at least six months old, legally licensed and vaccinated. They must also wear a visible dog license during the event.
Space is limited, and advance registration is required. Walk-up registration will not be offered.
The cost is $5 per person, with a maximum of two dogs per person. Attendees must be at least 12 years old, and anyone handling a dog must be 16 or older. Owners may also want to bring a dog dish for drinking water.
Registration is available online through Leesburg’s WebTrac system or in person at the front desk of the Ida Lee Recreation Center.
The AV Symington Aquatic Center is part of Leesburg’s Ida Lee Park complex, making the annual swim a familiar end-of-summer event for local dog owners looking to give their pets a turn in the pool.
