Leesburg, VA (October 30, 2023) – The public is invited to a pop-up exhibit on Friday, November 3 exploring the history of cemeteries in Leesburg.
Items from Thomas Balch Library’s collections will highlight the iconography of burial markers and the importance of cemeteries for historical and genealogical research.
Visitors will learn about the background of cemeteries in Leesburg and can talk with local historian Wynne Saffer, a long-time volunteer with the library’s cemetery committee. An activity featuring the backstory of some of Leesburg’s most interesting gravestones will also be available.
In addition to the pop-up exhibit, Thomas Balch Library staff and volunteers will be on hand processing archival collections. Exhibits about the Donaldson Log Cabin’s history will also be on view.
The event will be held at the Donaldson Log Cabin, 14 Loudoun St. SW, in conjunction with Leesburg First Friday from 5 to 7 p.m.
