On Saturday, May 11, 2024, Loudoun County Animal Services (LCAS) will host a fee-waived pet adoption event, 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., at the Loudoun County Animal Shelter, 42225 Adoption Drive, Leesburg. Adoption fees will be waived for all available pets, which include cats, kittens, dogs, small pets and livestock.
This year, LCAS is again part of the nationwide, “Empty the Shelters” event, sponsored by BISSELL Pet Foundation with the hopes of finding homes for all shelter pets this spring. “With more than 410 shelters in 43 states participating, LCAS is proud to be a part of this effort,” said Operations Manager Melissa Heard. “Our fee-waived adoption events help draw attention to the animals waiting at the shelter for homes. It is the opportunity to make a difference in the life of an animal and gain a new family member while doing so!”
Heard said that during the event, every adopted pet will go home with a coupon for a free GPS tracker. “This initiative aims to provide added peace of mind for pet parents while promoting responsible pet ownership. Last year LCAS received nearly 700 stray pets, and many of those animals were never reclaimed by their owners. In addition to microchipping your pet, a GPS collar is a great way to help keep pets and families together,” said Heard.
Prospective adopters can view available pets online at loudoun.gov/animals. The standard adoption screening process still applies during this promotion and most adoptions can be completed on the same day.
All dogs, cats and rabbits adopted from LCAS are spayed or neutered and receive a microchip, which is registered to their adopter. Dogs and cats also receive age-appropriate vaccinations.
