A Germantown man is facing charges after Leesburg Police say he struck a pedestrian in the heart of downtown last Friday evening — and then kept driving.

According to LPD, 56-year-old Todd Stevens was behind the wheel of a dark SUV that hit a pedestrian in the crosswalk at East Market and King Streets around 7:52 p.m. on September 12. Instead of stopping, Stevens allegedly fled the scene.

The pedestrian, whose name has not been released, was treated for minor injuries.

This stretch of Market Street is one of the busiest intersections in downtown Leesburg — especially on a Friday night — and the incident has locals once again raising concerns about crosswalk safety.

After identifying Stevens as the driver, Leesburg Police obtained warrants for hit and run causing injury and failure to yield to a pedestrian. With help from Montgomery County Police, Stevens was arrested at his home in Maryland. He’s currently being held there, awaiting extradition back to Virginia.
