Driver Arrested for DWI and Hit and Run on W&OD Trail

Leesburg, VA (August 19, 2024) – The Leesburg Police Department has apprehended an 18-year-old man in connection with an incident on the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail. The suspect, identified as Luis D. Funez Medina from Columbia, MD, faces several charges, including driving while intoxicated (DWI), drug possession, hit and run and driving without a license.

The incident occurred on Saturday, August 17, at approximately 11:29 a.m. Police were called to the area near Crosstrail Boulevard SE after receiving reports of a vehicle driving on the sidewalk of the W&OD Trail, narrowly missing several pedestrians. The vehicle, a grey Ford Escape, was later located in the unit block of Lawson Street SE, Leesburg.

Upon investigation, officers discovered that Funez Medina was driving without a valid license. He was taken into custody and is currently being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center pending a bond review. Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
