Free Leesburg Class Aims to Help Women and Girls Build Confidence

Leesburg Women in Government will host a free self-defense class Saturday, May 30, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Mastery Jiu Jitsu, located at 161 Fort Evans Road NE, Suite 135.

The class is open to the public and designed for women and girls ages 12 and older. No experience is needed, but participants must RSVP because space is limited.

Organizers say the class will focus on practical ways to escape an attacker, stay alert, and build confidence in a supportive setting.

“A central mission of the Women in Government initiative is to empower women and girls in our community, and the importance of learning how to be vigilant and protect yourself cannot be over-emphasized. This is a great class for mothers and daughters to take together. Bring your sisters, friends, and work colleagues to learn how to protect yourselves,” Mayor Kelly Burk stated.

Participants can register at the town’s website. A signed waiver is required to take part in the class.
