LEESBURG, VA — If you’ve been thinking about bringing home a furry (or feathered) friend, Loudoun County Animal Services is making it easier than ever.
On Saturday, August 23, LCAS will join the national “Clear the Shelters” initiative by waiving all adoption fees at its Leesburg shelter. That means no cost to adopt dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and even livestock. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the shelter on 42225 Adoption Drive.
The fee-free event comes at a time when the shelter is seeing more pets coming in than usual.
“We’ve had a 17% increase in owner-surrendered animals this year,” said Shelter Operations Manager Melissa Heard. “In many of these cases, these animals had loving families whose personal circumstances, such as economic issues and even homelessness, changed their abilities to keep their beloved pets. We are hopeful this event will help us find new families who will love them just as much as their previous ones.”
Every dog, cat and rabbit adopted from the shelter is spayed or neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. Plus, adopters get some extras: dogs come with a coupon for a free GPS tracker and a voucher for four free training sessions. All adopters receive supplies, toys and treats while they last.
If you’ve got kids, there’s a craft station set up to keep them busy while you meet the animals. You can also preview the current list of adoptable pets ahead of time at loudoun.gov/AvailablePets.
Standard screening still applies, but most folks are able to take their new pets home the same day.
LCAS has been participating in Clear the Shelters for years, part of a national campaign now in its 11th year. The effort, spearheaded by NBCUniversal Local, has helped over a million pets nationwide find homes.
