Leesburg Man Detained for Impersonating Federal Agent and Assaulting Officer

james-griggsJames Griggs, a 70-year-old resident of Leesburg, Virginia, has been formally charged with several serious offenses, including impersonating a law enforcement officer, assaulting a law enforcement officer, and obstructing justice with force. These charges stem from an incident that occurred yesterday morning in the 600 block of McLeary Square SE, Leesburg.

The Leesburg Police Department was alerted to the presence of an individual claiming to be a federal law enforcement officer and making threats towards another person. When officers arrived on the scene, they found Griggs, who behaved in a manner suggesting he was armed. During his interaction with the police, Griggs became aggressive and, while being apprehended, he assaulted an officer.

Following the altercation, Griggs was taken to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, where he is currently being held without the possibility of bond.
