Leesburg Police Make Another Arrest in String of Armed Robberies

Jairo Amaya Sorto

LEESBURG, VA — A third arrest has been made in connection with a string of armed robberies at Sheetz convenience stores in Leesburg. Jairo Amaya Sorto turned himself in at police headquarters on June 15 and is now being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

Sorto is facing a charge of robbery using a firearm for his alleged role in the May 8 robbery at the Sheetz on Edwards Ferry Road NW. That robbery happened just before 4 a.m., when two masked individuals stormed the store, showed a gun, and took off with cash. A third person stood outside acting as a lookout. Sorto is believed to be one of the suspects, although police haven’t specified his role.

Investigators are still trying to identify the two other suspects from the May 8 incident.

This isn’t the only trouble Sheetz in Leesburg has seen lately. Just weeks later, on June 3, that exact Sheetz location was hit again. Police arrested two 19-year-olds—Fidel Ordonez Molina and Jose A. Rosa Munoz, both from Leesburg—soon after that robbery. They’re both facing robbery and firearms charges, with Molina also charged with larceny. They’re also being held without bond.

And there’s more. On May 18, another Sheetz, located on California Drive NE, was robbed around 1:10 a.m. That case remains unsolved.

The Leesburg Police Department is urging anyone with information about any of these robberies to call the Criminal Investigations Division at 703-771-6417.
