Leesburg Police Make Arrest in Edwards Ferry Road Gunfire Investigation

Jairo Amaya-SortoLeesburg, VA (June 28, 2023) – Jairo Amaya-Sorto, 18, of Leesburg, was taken into custody yesterday evening in the 0-99 block of Plaza Street NE on Leesburg Police Department warrants charging him with the willful discharge of a firearm in a public place, possession of a firearm by an undocumented individual, two counts of destruction of property, and possession of a controlled substance. He was additionally served an unrelated warrant from the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. Amaya-Sorto remains held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on no bond.

The LPD charges stem from a shooting that occurred on Monday, May 29. 2023, shortly after 5:30 PM. The Leesburg Police Department Emergency Communications Center had received a report of a male discharging a firearm in the 100 block of Meadows Lane NE and also in the parking lot of an adjoining property in the 800 block of Edwards Ferry Road NE. Leesburg Police Officers immediately responded, however, were unable to locate the suspect at that time. Two vehicles were located with damage from the gunfire in a parking lot located in the 800 block of Edwards Ferry Road NE; however, no injuries have been reported.

Jairo Amaya-Sorto was identified as the sole suspect in this investigation.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Leesburg Police Department Criminal Investigation Section.
