Leesburg, VA (August 15, 2024) – Caleb Wolfe, an 18-year-old resident of Leesburg, VA, has been charged with one misdemeanor count of false emergency communication to emergency personnel. The charge arises from an incident in mid-July where Wolfe allegedly made a false report of an armed robbery.
The incident occurred on Saturday, July 13, 2024, around 7:00 PM, when the Leesburg Police Department Emergency Communications Center received a call about a robbery in progress at the Safeway located at 437 South King Street. The caller claimed to have witnessed two individuals armed with knives robbing a male victim.
Leesburg police officers responded quickly to the scene and conducted an investigation. It soon became clear that the report was a hoax. Through their investigation, officers identified Wolfe as the individual responsible for making the false report. As a result, Wolfe was issued a summons to appear in court on the misdemeanor charge.
Leesburg Police Chief Thea Pirnat commented on the incident, stating, “Filing a false report not only wastes valuable resources but also creates a significant safety issue by diverting emergency personnel away from where they are truly needed. This irresponsible behavior generates unnecessary fear and anxiety within our community and undermines the trust that we work hard to build with those we serve.”
