Loudoun United FC is teaming up with the Loudoun Education Foundation to hold a snack drive on Saturday, August 19 during the match against Sacramento Republic FC. As a token of appreciation, each participant contributing to the drive will receive a voucher for a ‘Buy One, Get One’ ticket deal for one of Loudoun United’s remaining 2023 home games.
Initiated in January 2022, the Loudoun Education Foundation set up in-school pantries, which are now functional in 11 schools. These pantries supply diverse food items, household essentials, and hygiene products to students who need them. The popularity of these pantries is significant, with more than 200 visits per week across all participating schools, and over 5,200 hygiene items distributed to approximately 3,700 students since their inception in 2022.
Doug Raftery, Loudoun United FC Executive Business Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the collaborative initiative, saying, “We look forward to launching our inaugural snack drive with Loudoun Education Foundation.” He emphasized the importance of supporting local communities, particularly as summer draws to a close and families prepare for the new school year.
The snack drive will accept donations of individually packaged items, including granola bars, trail mix, applesauce, crackers, chips, fruit cups, ramen, easy mac, and similar items. A distinctive feature of these in-school pantries is that they allow families to choose items according to their needs, thereby minimizing waste and promoting sustainability.
Representatives from the Loudoun Education Foundation will be present to collect donations at Segra Field, starting from the opening of the gates at 6:15 p.m., and will continue until the 7:15 p.m. kickoff. The ‘Buy One, Get One’ ticket vouchers can be used for one of the upcoming 2023 home games of Loudoun United, subject to availability and potential blackout dates.
