Mapping the Past: Learn Land Surveying Skills with Wynne Saffer in Leesburg

Leesburg, VA – In an upcoming educational event, local historian and author Wynne Saffer will lead a class titled “Locating Places” at the Thomas Balch Library. This event is scheduled for Thursday, December 7, at 10 a.m. Saffer, known for his book “Loudoun County Virginia 1860 Land Tax Map,” has a rich background in teaching about deed research and Northern Neck Land Grants.

In this session, Saffer will guide participants in converting metes and bounds surveys into property plats. Attendees will learn to decipher these plats using various landmarks such as roads and streams, and to employ current parcel maps for pinpointing ancient property lines.
