Multiple Felony Charges for Suspect in Leesburg Reckless Driving Case

Leesburg, VA – The Leesburg Police Department has announced charges against Ricardo Avilez-Blanco, 27, in connection with a series of dangerous driving incidents that occurred in October this year. Avilez-Blanco, currently without a permanent address, faces a range of felony and misdemeanor charges, including one count each of eluding, attempted malicious wounding, hit and run causing injury, destruction of property, assault, and reckless driving.

The incidents began on October 14, 2023, when a white Chevrolet Camaro was seen speeding on East Market Street. Despite attempts by the police to stop the vehicle, the driver, later identified as Avilez-Blanco, eluded capture, prioritizing public safety over immediate apprehension. The car was later found parked and unoccupied on Fieldstone Drive NE.

Following an extensive investigation, Leesburg Police detectives identified Avilez-Blanco as the driver. He was subsequently indicted by a Loudoun County Grand Jury on December 11, 2023, after a magistrate issued the felony charges against him on December 9. Currently, Avilez-Blanco is detained in Arizona on unrelated charges, with the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office seeking nationwide extradition for him to return to Loudoun County to face these charges.
