Downtown Leesburg just got a little brighter. The Town has installed a new set of colorful, artist-designed banners across the Arts & Cultural District, turning a walk down King Street into a mini art gallery.
In February, the Commission on Public Art (COPA) collaborated with Friends of Leesburg Public Arts (FOLPA) to invite local artists to submit original banner designs. The goal? Replace the logo-heavy banners that have been hanging since 2021 with something that feels more alive—and more Leesburg.
And Leesburg artists delivered. Fourteen new banners now hang throughout the district, each showcasing a different local artist’s take on the town, whether through photographs, paintings, or drawings. You’ll see everything from quiet historic corners to bold and abstract takes on our local identity.
“The Commission on Public Art in Leesburg was delighted to see so many talented artists lend their hand in highlighting our vibrant Arts and Cultural District,” said COPA Chair Jeanette Ward. “We love to see each artist’s diverse style contribute to these projects for our community.”
If you want to take a closer look at the original pieces, they’ll be on display inside Visit Loudoun at 112 South Street SE through the end of July. There is also a public reception on Friday, June 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. Everyone is invited.
The banners are more than just decorations—they’re a visual reminder that Leesburg’s creative spirit is alive and well, even as the town grows and changes.
