New Business Assistance Team to Guide Leesburg Entrepreneurs

Leesburg, VA (June 10, 2024) – The Town of Leesburg has launched a new Business Assistance Team (BAT) designed to support business owners and representatives throughout the land development, permitting, and business licensing processes.

Approved by the Leesburg Town Council in January, this eight-person team is composed of staff from various departments including Economic Development, Community Development, Utilities, Finance & Administrative Services, the Police Department, and Public Works & Capital Projects. These members, who previously provided assistance during the development process, will now work collaboratively to improve coordination and efficiency.

The BAT aims to simplify the permitting process by offering upfront guidance on timeframes and requirements. Serving as a central point of contact, the team ensures that business applicants receive comprehensive support from start to finish.

“Creating a dedicated Business Assistance Team is important to fostering a thriving local economy,” said Melanie Scoggins, Assistant Director of Economic Development. “By offering a collaborative and holistic approach, we support businesses through every stage of development, from permitting to operational success.”

Scoggins emphasized that the team’s cross-departmental expertise will provide exceptional customer service and thorough guidance, enabling businesses to navigate the processes more efficiently. This initiative aligns with Strategy Two of the Leesburg Economic Development strategic plan, aiming to enhance customer education and satisfaction while driving economic growth for the town.
