As someone who grew up just a few miles from Dry Mill Road, I know that 7-Eleven. It’s the kind of place neighbors stop for coffee before work or a late-night snack after a high school game. So when something like this happens, it hits close to home.

The Leesburg Police Department announced Wednesday that a Leesburg man has been arrested in connection with an attempted armed robbery that happened last month at the 7-Eleven on Dry Mill Road.

According to police, the incident occurred on January 22 at about 12:37 a.m. A man entered the store, claimed he was armed, and made demands. He left without taking anything.

After several weeks of investigation, detectives identified the suspect as Christopher Ellis, 55, of Leesburg. He was arrested on February 26 and charged with attempted robbery and wearing a mask to conceal his identity.

Ellis was taken to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the Leesburg Police Department at 703-771-4500 or the Criminal Investigations Section at 703-771-6417. Anonymous tips can also be submitted by calling 703-443-TIPS (8477).

In a town that still likes to think of itself as tight-knit, even as we continue to grow, incidents like this are a reminder that vigilance matters. If you know something, now’s the time to speak up.
