Leesburg, VA (February 26, 2024) – Thomas Balch Library will host a special pop-up exhibit on Friday, March 1 that will explore the many styles of handwriting in American history.
The eccentricities of historical handwriting can be a roadblock to historical and genealogical research. Visitors will have the opportunity to view examples from Thomas Balch Library collections while trying to decipher and transcribe records from different eras. There will also be an opportunity to learn tips and tricks for unpuzzling hard to read cursive.
In addition to the pop-up exhibit, staff and volunteers will be on hand processing archival collections. Exhibits about the Donaldson Log Cabin’s history will also be on display.
The event will be held at the Donaldson Log Cabin (14 Loudoun St. SW) in conjunction with Leesburg First Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information call 703-737-7195 or email balchlib@leesburgva.gov.
