Leesburg residents will have a chance later this month to safely dispose of sensitive documents while also helping local families facing food insecurity.
The Town of Leesburg’s Public Works Department is holding a free community shredding event on Saturday, May 30, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Heritage High School, located at 520 Evergreen Mills Road SE.
Town residents can bring up to three boxes or bags of documents for shredding. Each container must be about the size of a standard file storage box. Officials said the service is limited to residential use and business documents will not be accepted, even if they are delivered by a Leesburg resident.
The event has become a popular way for residents to securely dispose of old financial records, medical paperwork, and other documents containing personal information. Town officials are also reminding residents that the event could end early if the shredding trucks reach capacity before 1 p.m.
Alongside the shredding event, volunteers will collect non-perishable food donations for Loudoun Hunger Relief, a Leesburg-based nonprofit that serves families across Loudoun County. Organizers are encouraging residents to bring canned goods and other shelf-stable items while they drop off documents.
The event reflects a growing effort in Loudoun County to pair community services with support for local charities, especially as food assistance organizations continue to report steady demand.
Residents looking for a list of acceptable shredding materials and identity theft prevention tips can visit the Town of Leesburg website. Information about Loudoun Hunger Relief’s most-needed food donations is also available online.
