Run, Give Back, and “Freeze Your Gizzard” in Leesburg this November

The chilly weather is back, and so is one of Leesburg’s most loved traditions—the “Freeze Your Gizzard” Cross Country 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run, now in its 22nd year. Set for Saturday, November 23, this year’s event is organized by Leesburg Parks and Recreation in partnership with Loudoun Hunger Relief. The race will take place at Ida Lee Park, offering a beautiful and challenging cross-country course through its 138 acres.

Race Details
The 5K kicks off at 9 a.m., starting near the gazebo in the front field, while the 1 Mile Fun Run will follow at 9:45 a.m. Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just looking for some fun, this race welcomes participants of all ages and skill levels. However, due to the uneven terrain, no dogs, wagons, or strollers are allowed on the course.

Registration and Pricing
For those interested, early registration is open now. The 5K costs $30 if you sign up by November 9, and it jumps after that date. The 1 Mile Fun Run is $15 through November 20, with prices increasing on November 21. All pre-registered 5K runners will get a special long-sleeve performance shirt, and fun run participants will receive a medal when they cross the finish line.

Giving Back to the Community
Beyond running, participants are encouraged to support Loudoun Hunger Relief by bringing non-perishable food items for the pantry. You can also make a monetary donation when you sign up online. This race is more than just a fun run—it’s about coming together to help neighbors in need.

Logistics
Parking for the race will be in the festival parking field, accessible only from North King Street (Business Route 15). For safety reasons, there’s no race-day parking access from Ida Lee Drive.
