A Sterling man has been charged with grand larceny following a thorough investigation into a shoplifting incident that unfolded in September last year. The case brings to light the ongoing challenges faced by retailers and the community in addressing crime.
The incident occurred on September 11, 2023, when Leesburg Police were called to the Sunglass Hut located at 241 Fort Evans Road, NE, in Leesburg. A report from the business detailed how an individual had entered the store and taken merchandise valued at over $2,800. This theft not only represents a significant loss to the business but also highlights the broader issue of retail theft impacting local communities.
Through dedicated investigative work, Leesburg Police successfully identified 29-year-old Raquan L. Harkless of Sterling as the suspect in this case. Harkless was arrested on January 31, 2024, demonstrating the persistence of local law enforcement in ensuring justice is served. Following his arrest, Harkless was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, where he is currently being held without bond.
This case is a testament to the collaborative efforts between the Leesburg Police Department and the community in addressing and deterring criminal activities. It also serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in such unlawful behavior.
