Woman Robbed, Assaulted on Plaza Street NE

The Leesburg Police Department is asking for the public’s help after a woman was robbed and assaulted near 24 Plaza Street NE on May 1st, just after 8 p.m.

According to police, the woman was walking along the street when someone came up behind her and hit her in the head. She wasn’t able to get a good look at who did it, but she told officers she saw two people running off wearing dark clothes. Her personal belongings were taken during the incident. Thankfully, her injuries were reported as minor.

This stretch of Plaza Street, not far from local apartment complexes and within walking distance of several businesses, is generally a well-traveled area, especially in the early evening. The news of the attack has neighbors rattled and sharing safety tips online.

Leesburg Police are still working to identify the suspects and are encouraging anyone who saw something suspicious around that time—or who may have surveillance footage from the area—to contact Detective J. Roberts at 703-771-4500.

In the meantime, police have increased patrols in the area and are reminding residents to be alert and, when possible, to walk in groups during evening hours.
